A classic, romantic London Marylebone Town Hall wedding on 35mm film

Emily & Zack with one of the most aligned Marylebone wedding days I’ve seen. It all just worked so well together.

The morning at The Landmark Hotel

In true London wedding style, Emily was getting ready in a beautiful city hotel across the road from The Old Marylebone Town Hall - The Landmark.

I love these mornings before a London Town Hall wedding, especially when I’ve got lots of film. There’s something about the city feeling, with its architecture and classic style, coupled with the timelessness of analogue photography. It just never misses. Emily was getting ready with her sister, and with the help of the fab Emma Toovey, who also showed us a shortcut for a couple of cute spots for photos.

This morning had some really unique moments with a couple of strangers becoming part of the day - a porter in the hallway and hotel guest who joined us in the lift (and loved it). They’re in the gallery below!

I was joined by my favourite Super 8 videographer, Laura as well.

The Old Marylebone Town Hall

Old Marylebone Town Hall is one of the most iconic wedding settings in London, recently chosen by Dua Lipa and Callum turner for their legal ceremony. So it’s pretty cool.

London town halls are beautifully built, with every room, corridor and waiting area an opportunity for gorgeous photos. A few pre-ceremony photos of Emily and her dad having a moment together, as well as Zack and guests waiting in anticipation.

Of course, we had a classic confetti moment on the famous Marylebone steps, and a few group photos.

The portraits and the journey

Marylebone is just so full of beautiful spots for portraits, both at the town hall, and the surrounding streets. We actually grabbed a couple of pictures while waiting for the guests to gather out the front for confetti, which was a natural moment for some indoor portraits (I don’t like carving out photo time during moments that want to be spent with guests). The iconic alcoves at the top of the steps featured heavily, and Emily and Zack had some chic sunglasses to add to it all.

We had the perfect checklist. Blue skies, film, a stunning dress and scarf, a tuxedo, the London streets, and two people who just love each other incredibly. It was also a great opportunity for one of my favourite techniques - using flash on film on a bright sunny day when they’re backlit. The two photos which do this are the two with Emily and Zack in front of the white houses with sunglasses on. They’re just..

But I love them all.

The reception

We arrived at The Italian Greyhound in Marylebone to a glass of fizz and a warm welcome by the lovely staff there. We were so well looked after by the way. We were in the beautiful street level bar and dining room, which has bare plaster walls and stylish interiors, and a small outdoor area under an awning.

The warm light inside really lent itself to Kodak Ultramax 400, which looked great both with and without flash. Florals were by Lois at SOIL Studio, a pal from Margate. I’ve known her for a few years, and I’ve only just realised that SOIL is just her name backwards.

The food here was amazing, with both Laura and I having a truffle pesto, oyster mushroom & fior di latte pizza.
